Tapestry of the World

“Destiny itself is like a wonderful wide tapestry in which every thread is guided by an unspeakable tender hand, placed beside another thread and held and carried by a hundred others.” ― Rainer Maria Rilke

Do you agree? I once heard another story about the tapestry of the world, and it has stayed close to my heart for this past year. The tale shares that there is an old woman in a cave who sits knitting this tapestry—all the stories of the whole world are in it, yours and mine as well. There is also a black dog in the cave, and the dog brings chaos when it plays with the tapestry’s threads and unravels them all. When she comes back to see that her work has been unraveled, the old woman simply sits back down and begins knitting again.

Sometimes there’s a bit of a chaotic moment in life, and the threads have unraveled a bit, but you can simply sit down and start anew—taking what you have learned to make the pattern more beautiful for the next one. But what Rilke reveals is that it takes a community of support for each of us to continue weaving. Many hands make light work! I love this tale combined with Rilke’s insight.

AND! Speaking of the hands of support, I am so excited to reveal that this weekend’s feast, which we are hosting with with @aroweculinary, will be held at the incredibly beautiful home of Jodi and Gary of @hiveandhum (which you can get a small glimpse of in this picture)! This feast location is so special (just look at their feed for some more glimpses!). The Looking Glass concepts will be woven through the space like a tapestry. We have just a few seats left for both Saturday and Sunday, so if you want to join us, you can still get a ticket, today!
