"We cannot live only for ourselves. A thousand fibers connect us." — Herman Melville

This weekend I was honored to be on the volunteer team, taking photos for a great cause at this benefit dinner. The Live Earth Farm Discovery Program (@farmdiscovery) works to empower youth and families to build and sustain healthy food, farming, social, and natural systems. This work and this gathering are so important.

We are also in the midst of what the Governor of Puerto Rico warns may be a humanitarian crisis (@nytimes). The hurricanes, the earthquakes, the political landscape. It's a lot to take in. What I have learned to do is offer support and honor these thousands of fibers that connect us on this one living earth.

(Ok, and the opening Melville ended that quote by saying "with our fellow men." But I'm gonna go with my own shortened version.) 😊

This beauty-filled bite is by @chefjessicayarr of @assembleforfoodwith a chickpea purée, olive tapenade, peppers, roasted gypsy peppers, and amaranth.
